We've all encountered those days where you are mentally or physically drained from things outside the barn. Our first reaction is to drive feverishly, march into the nearest farm, and take a breath of fresh horsey air. Ah, yes. The smell of healing. Our worries and fears take a back seat to the majestic 1200 pound hairy beasts that surround us. Heaven on earth is found. The perfect end to a rough day.
There is something about the true connection and unconditional love these animals radiate to humans that calms the nerves and strengthens the spirit. Much like a connection with a family member or significant other, horses have a way of providing comfort without saying a word. No judgement passed, just careful thought and concern of the immediate moment.
As humans we could (and should) think about how to transfer the feeling our horses provide to us. Could we provide that same kindness to others?Think of how many days we spend worried, confused, stressed, and upset about issues that could have been avoided with a little care. We live in the moment by reacting to life instead of living in the moment by careful consideration. Our horses give a valuable lesson here: Act in kindness, with open hearts and minds; Live in the moment with just intention; Find comfort in knowing there is always someone to help heal your spirits when they are broken.
