It's all in the Attitude

Horses in the show ring have poise, confidence, and energy that makes them gleam in the limelight.  They know they are awesome and quite honestly, so do you.  After watching these horses you go out to the barn and YOU have the gleam – but your horse doesn’t meet you half way.  You decide this is horse isn’t worth it and put him away for the day. Crushed, you leave the barn, reality hits.

What you just learned isn’t apparent right now, but if you give it time it might be in the future.  You had Grand Prix expectations of your horse with no real foundation to build it on.  In the immediate moment you might have ventured to say this was a “bad” ride, but in your subliminal mind you just gave yourself a new riding goal.  Your attitude is everything and if you’re paying attention to that subliminal you will know that the next time you hop on for a ride.

Your drive home is filled with comparisons of how your favorite horse and rider handle situations.  You start to dissect the movements or mechanics of the ride so you can emulate it.  Your confidence just reached a new and attainable level for you and your horse.  The next ride becomes better.  The horse feels great, you feel great.  Your outlook has changed.  Your attitude has changed.  Your horse has the confidence he needs to meet you half way.   You just proved to yourself that attitude really is everything.
